Woman Of the week

Italian born Maria Grazia is a Fashion Designer, Mother, Feminist and Dior’s first female Creative Director in its 70-year history. After studying design at the Instituto Europeo di Design School in Italy, she went onto work with high-end designer brands, Fendi in 1989 and then onto Valentino in 1999 where she spent the next 17 years revamping the luxury brands entire accessories division and revitalising it’s menswear collections. In 2016 following Raf Simmons departure from Dior, Maria Grazia was announced as Creative Director and bought with her a new wave of feminism.

In 2016, Maria Grazia put on her premiere fashion show for Christian Dior during September fashion week. Featured in the show was a T-Shirt with the words ‘We should all be Feminists’ which is a quote from author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s book about feminism in the 21st century. This instantly became one of the most talked about designs from fashion week and became a collaboration with artist Rihanna. Dior then announced that a percentage of proceeds from the sales of the T-Shirts benefit The Clara Lionel Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Rihanna in 2012, that supports global education, health, and emergency response programs.
