Save the Children
Save the Children works to create a world in which every child has the right to survive, learn and be protected. We were founded on the belief that every child deserves the chance of a future. In 2023, the Save the Children global movement directly reached 105.4 million children in 115 countries. In the UK, we worked with over 300 organisations to support local communities and engage with children and parents. More than 30,000 people took part in our community projects and events.

SAVE THE CHILDREN AND EDUCATION
Without a quality basic education, children are less likely to escape the cycle of poverty and may never have the opportunity to fulfil their potential. Save the Children is working to close this global learning gap by making sure children settle at school and get a quality education, supported by well-equipped teachers. In 2023, Save the Children reached 8.5 million children through education projects, had 2.7 million children participate in learning activities in humanitarian contexts, and trained 87,500 teachers and facilitators to provide quality teaching for children.
SAVE THE CHILDREN EMERGENCY FUND
Our Emergency Fund is essential in enabling Save the Children to immediately respond to disasters around the world. It also allows us to respond to the countless ongoing crises around the world that don’t hit the headlines. Thanks to our Emergency Fund, we can be by a child’s side within days of a disaster striking – to help children survive and rebuild their lives.
A key activity of the Emergency Fund is childhood education. We support early learning – the most important time in a child’s development. We work with schools, teachers, communities and families, to make sure kids get the education they deserve, no matter what’s going on around them. We campaign for children to get a good education and push for governments and donors to invest in learning and keep schools safe for everyone.
SAVE THE CHILDREN UK
In the UK, 36% of children live in poverty, 33% of children living in poverty fall behind with their education, and 23% of children living in poverty in England miss expected levels of language development by 5. Save the Children UK is one of the leading child poverty charities in the UK, making a difference for children’s lives across the country.
Children from lower income families are 50% less likely to do as well at school as their classmates. We support tens of thousands of children’s learning with our Families Connect programme. We have also helped over 72,000 children learn better at home through our Building Blocks programme. We are uniting families and schools, ensuring the poorest children get help, building positive home environments and campaigning for children’s futures.
