Sumbandila

Sumbandila is an educational non-profit that operates predominantly in rural Limpopo, South Africa. We believe in the transformative power of education. Sumbandila selects extraordinary children from backgrounds of extreme poverty and offers them a world-class education alongside a strong mentorship programme. Our ultimate goal is to help build future leaders who will make significant contributions to their communities and country.

HOW WE WORK

Sumbandila aims to find intelligent and determined children from extremely deprived rural backgrounds and take them on an eight-year educational journey, with the long-term goal of creating leaders and entrepreneurs who can effect much-needed change in our society and economy. Sumbandila places high emphasis on much-needed skills like mathematics, sciences, and technology but also recognises the importance of literacy, arts, and humanitities. We do this through our core programmes – Residential Programme, Exceptionals Programme, Tertiary Programme, and Holiday School.

OUR SUCCESS

Since 2008, Sumbandila has impacted the lives of over 300 children and their families. A total of 170 students are studying at universities throughout South Africa. 148 have successfully graduated from university and are in the workplace. 120 are part of our high school programme. 100% of Sumbandila students graduate high school. 94% of Sumbandila students graduate university. 100% of Sumbandila students are employed within 6 months of graduation.
